Snapper
Getting a good look from a snapping turtle in the river. Painted turtles were not as plentiful this summer. Last year there were at least a dozen on an island near the river bank which disappeared this year.

American burnweed
A plant noticed going to seed near a river. I read it is considered a pioneer species, thriving at sites where fires or other disturbances have occurred. An impressive American weed.

Mouse-eared hawkweed
For years I’ve been mislabeling this little flower a dandelion. Why? Because I wasn’t paying close attention to the differences in shape. This lovely weed has squarish petals, compared with the dandelion’s, which are thinner. I apologize, little weed. My bad.
