River grass
The varieties of river grass look different, depending on light, currents, the water levels and the seasons. The past few years I haven’t tired of watching the grass.

Last days
A weedy sunflower, fading away in the high grass beside the river. Thanks are owed to some passing bird.

Blossoms
The plants on my balcony are turning full faced to the sun, as daylight dwindles. I see a power in them not seen in them when summer was at its height.

American burnweed
A plant noticed going to seed near a river. I read it is considered a pioneer species, thriving at sites where fires or other disturbances have occurred. An impressive American weed.

Cones
Pine cones are beautiful in late August. The resin drips and the sunlight shines through them.

September
The flowers on my balcony are still blooming, often with an abandon, because they sense their days are numbered.

Riverside
A beautiful time beside the mill river is when all the plants turn to seed. Even the weeds and scrub are handsome. During the summer the flowers and moisturizer sustained bees and butterflies.
